The viticulture for our Château de Bord cuvée is considered sustainable: certified Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value Level 3. Low yields of 35 hl/ha from vines approximately 40 years old and a careful management of vegetative vigor throughout the year contribute to this cuvée's delightful concentration and notable fruit richness.

THE WINE

🍇 Grapes: Syrah, Grenache, Viognier.

🍷 Color: Dark ruby with purple reflections.

👃 Nose: Very intense and complex. In its early youth, the nose is fresh with red fruit notes like cherry and strawberry, along with spices, blackcurrant bud, and hints of yellow fruits like mango. After two to three years of aging, black cherry, strawberry jam, and black pepper dominate at first, evolving into notes of cherry brandy and truffle.

👄 Palate: In its youth, the wine is fresh and round, enhanced by touches of black fruits and pepper. As it ages, the palate becomes very broad with a long finish supported by aromas of black fruits, truffles, and undergrowth.

🍽️ Pairing: Serve at 17°C. Open 1 hour in advance. Enjoy with lamb chops, truffle beef fillet, porcini risotto, or chocolate fondant.

⌛ Aging Potential: 8-10 years.

LOCATION, TERROIR & VINIFICATION

Located in Laudun-l'Ardoise in the Gard (30), between Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Lirac, Château de Bord is a 22-hectare vineyard featuring the remains of a medieval castle overlooking the vines. The Château de Bord estate is situated on hillside terraces: the clay-limestone soils are well-drained and perfectly south-facing.

Dating back to Roman times, the vineyard was owned by the Bishops of Uzès in the 11th century, then by the Count of Toulouse, before being abandoned during the French Revolution. It changed hands several times before being purchased in 1991 by the Brotte family.

Severe green work (bud thinning, leaf stripping, green pruning) is carried out to limit yields. The harvest is done manually. We vinify Syrah and Viognier together for better balance. They are then aged in various ages of French oak barrels. The Grenaches are harvested at perfect maturity and vinified separately. Aging is done in concrete tanks and century-old large oak casks to preserve the fruit. Bottling takes place in March after more than a year of aging and light filtration.
